Genetics and origin of Opium

Opium is a perfectly balanced hybrid 50% indica and 50% sativa, the result of crossing White Widow, Durban Poison and Jack Herer.

White Widow contributes stability and enormous resin production; from Durban Poison, the energetic and stimulating character; and from Jack Herer, that cerebral and creative spark. The result is a stable, vigorous variety with its own personality, bringing together the best of three absolute classics.

Indoor and outdoor cultivation

Indoors, it’s a very versatile plant that responds wonderfully to techniques like SOG and hydroponic systems, where it develops thick and dense colas. Its flowering period of about 60 days (8–9 weeks) is relatively short and allows yields of around 450 g/m². It’s advisable to control its vigorous growth with pruning or training to make the most of the space.

Outdoors, Opium transforms into a large-sized plant, robust and heavily branched, with harvest from early to mid-October in the northern hemisphere and yields that can range from 600 g to nearly 1 kg per plant in warm climates. It’s resistant and forgiving, although due to the density of its buds, it’s advisable to protect it from humidity at the end of flowering in rainy areas to prevent the appearance of fungi.

Opium’s aromatic profile is complex and enticing, with predominant sweet and fruity notes accompanied by earthy and woody nuances, with hints of tropical punch and grape.
