Hesi CalMag – replenish calcium and magnesium in low-mineral water

Hesi CalMag is a liquid calcium and magnesium supplement for plants supplied with soft tap water, demineralised water or reverse osmosis water. It replenishes two essential minerals that your source water may lack. Suitable for beginners and experienced growers, it helps you tailor your plant nutrition to the water you actually use.

Mineral support from cuttings through to flowering

Calcium supports the structure of plant cell walls. Magnesium forms part of chlorophyll, the green pigment needed for photosynthesis. By supplying both nutrients, Hesi CalMag supports these essential processes in plant development.

The supplement can be used in soil, coco substrates and hydroponics, from the cutting stage through vegetative growth and flowering. It works with both hand watering and automatic irrigation systems. It can also be useful in LED growing environments where plants require additional calcium and magnesium.

Hesi CalMag dosage and EC checks

For reverse osmosis or distilled water with a starting EC of approximately 0, the guideline dosage is 3–4 ml per 5 L of water, equivalent to 0.6–0.8 ml per litre. Soft tap water requires less, depending on its starting conductivity. Use dosing syringes and pipettes to measure small quantities.

Add CalMag gradually until the water reaches an EC of 0.4–0.5 mS/cm. EC means electrical conductivity, which you can check with an EC meter for conductivity monitoring. This target applies to preparing your source water; it is not a universal final EC target for the fully mixed nutrient solution.

Use alongside your base nutrients

CalMag also contains nitrogen, chelated iron and molybdenum. It does not replace a complete base fertiliser. Choose Hesi nutrients suited to your growing medium and plant stage, and account for the additional nitrogen in your feeding plan. The calcium and magnesium contents are declared as oxide values, not as percentages of elemental calcium and magnesium.
