Genetics and Origin of Blueberry

Blueberry emerges from the cross between an Afghan indica, a Thai sativa (Highland Thai), and a Mexican/Oaxacan sativa, a combination that results in a hybrid with marked indica dominance (approximately 60-80% indica). This heritage explains its character: the indica base provides compact structure and abundant resin, while the sativa touch adds a cerebral and creative nuance uncommon in such indica-dominant genetics.

Indoor and Outdoor Cultivation

Indoors, Blueberry completes its flowering in around 8-9 weeks and maintains contained heights, from about 80 to 130 cm, which facilitates its management in reduced spaces. The breeder recommends a vegetative period of between 4 and 6 weeks. It develops compact and very resinous buds, with a good calyx-to-leaf ratio that simplifies trimming; additionally, low temperatures at the end of flowering enhance its characteristic blue and purple tones. Its productivity is at a medium-high level.

Outdoors, harvest arrives in early or mid-October, with plants that can reach between 1.5 and 3 meters and high yields (up to nearly 700 g per well-cultivated plant). It’s worth noting that it prefers a stable environment and some air circulation, as in humid climates it can show sensitivity to mold development.

Aromas, Flavors and Effects

Blueberry’s aromatic profile is its great signature: a fruity blueberry aroma, markedly sweet and with an earthy background. The palate repeats that same old school experience, with blueberry flavors, sweet notes and that earthy nuance so typical of classic genetics.

As for its effects, sources describe it as euphoric, relaxing and long-lasting, of high quality. Despite its indica dominance, it doesn’t turn out excessively sedative or heavy: it retains that creative and cerebral point that its sativa heritage provides, which makes it a balanced and highly enjoyable variety.
